Water, Light and Land - Exhibit at Benicia Plein Air Gallery

3/3/2025 - 3/31/2025

Description

Suzanne D’Arcy will open her new show, “Water, Light and Land” at the Benicia Plein Air Gallery on March 8. The paintings are a small collection of large plein air paintings done on site and finished over a period of weeks. Some started as small studies but grew as something in the composition demanded to be larger. Suzanne was first exposed to this idea of large plein air paintings by a book about Lucy Kemp-Walsh, a highly regarded woman painter of horses in England. Lucy would load her very large canvases onto a trolly and have it pulled into a field to study and paint horses. Her work is exquisite. Another believer in painting from life was Spanish painter Joaquin Sorolla, whose huge murals of twelve Spanish towns were all painted outside. Suzanne’s show runs from March 3 to March 30. Friday, Saturday, Sunday only, from 11-5 pm. She will be there all-day March 8 (Saturday) and 9 Sunday, and March 14 (Friday) and 15 (Sunday). Also on exhibit is a collection of plein air paintings by all 12 of the gallery’s artists. Benicia Plein Air Gallery is located at 307 First Street in downtown Benicia. Staffed by the artists, the gallery is open Fridays through Sundays, 11:00 am to 5:00 pm. For more information visit www.BeniciaPleinAir.com.
